Estate planning for New York families
A New York plan has to account for Surrogate's Court, long-term care costs and a state estate tax that works very differently from the federal one. We meet clients in Harlem and Long Island City.
The $7,717,500 problem
For 2026, New York's exclusion is $7,350,000, about half the $15 million federal exemption. Above $7,717,500, the exclusion is gone. New York also has no portability between spouses.
What we handle
- Wills, revocable trusts and irrevocable trusts
- Powers of attorney and health care proxies
- New York estate tax planning
- Medicaid planning
- Probate and estate administration in Surrogate's Court
New to New York?
A plan written in another state may not account for New York's estate tax or forms. See what to review. Own property in another state too? We can help with that.
